We all have a little cannabis in us.
At least that’s what narrator Peter Coyote said during Monday night’s screening of the Len Richmond film, “What if cannabis cured cancer.”
The film was shown during a meeting for the University’s chapter of The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. According to their website, since its founding in 1970, NORML has provided a voice for Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition, favoring an end to the practice of arresting marijuana smokers. NORML continues to lead the fight to reform state and federal marijuana laws.
Established in the spring of 2010, the university’s chapter of NORML is the first organization of its kind to hit campus.
Jacob Fox, a sophomore from Philadelphia, Penn., and the club’s president, used the film as a capstone for the final meeting of the semester.

This probably won’t come as a huge shock, but legendary country singer Willie Nelson was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on Friday after six ounces of pot was found aboard his tour bus in Texas, a U.S. Border Patrol spokesman told the Associated Press.
On Friday morning, an officer smelled pot when Nelson’s tour bus pulled into a Sierra Blanca checkpoint at 9 a.m. A suspiciously early hour for such an odor to be eminating from a vehicle. Marijuana was discovered during a search of the bus, patrol spokesman Bill Brooks told the AP.
Sheriff Arvin West told the El Paso Times that Nelson said that the marijuana was his.
The singer was held briefly on a $2,500 bond before being released.
Nelson, 77, has made no secret of his love of ganja. The outspoken advocate for the legalization of marijuana was busted at a traffic stop in 2006 for one-and-a-half pounds of pot and a bag of mushrooms.
He entered a guilty plea and was fined $1,024 and placed on probation for six months.
But Nelson is far from the only celebrity to get caught green-handed.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Federal authorities seized more than 2,139 pounds of marijuana from an abandoned vehicle found in the desert near Casa Grande Friday afternoon.
The Office of Air and Marine (OAM) was patrolling the desert by air when the crew spotted what appeared to be a vehicle concealed with camouflage cover. The crew contacted the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station to respond.
Agents removed the tarp and discovered 93 bundles of marijuana inside the vehicle. The estimated value of the drugs was $1.7 million.
Agents said there was no sign of any smugglers.
The vehicle and drugs were seized and transported to the Casa Grande Station for processing.
“The Border Patrol and OAM continue to impact the business of organized smuggling,” said Chris T. Clem, patrol agent in charge of the Casa Grande Station. “The biggest winner when we take these drugs off the streets is the public. We are glad to make our communities safer places to live.”

Man Sentenced In Marijuana Smuggling Ring
Nov 23, 2010 Vaporizers
NEW HAVEN — A member of a marijuana smuggling ring responsible for as much as $120,000 a month in sales in Fairfield County was sentenced to more than three years in prison Monday in U.S. District Court.
Federal investigators said they used wiretaps to document ring members’ smuggling hundreds of pounds of high-grade, hydroponically grown marijuana from Quebec into Connecticut and smuggling hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash back to Canada.
The amount of marijuana and money moved by the Canadian group probably is higher because the ring is suspected of operating for five years before investigators learned of its existence in 2007 through a police traffic stop in upstate New York. A state trooper stopped a courier carrying $376,000 in cash to Canada.
Brian Danzi, 35, of Greenwich, described by authorities as a principal in the ring, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Mark R. Kravitz to 41 months in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to reduced charges of conspiracy and distribution of marijuana.
His brother Michael Danzi, 32, of Greenwich, previously was sentenced to 48 months in prison on charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and one count of conspiracy to smuggle bulk cash out of the United States.
